About the PASCAL Logo Print E-mail

The Triangle mark/icon of the new PASCAL identity underscores the three core programs that serve as the foundation for our 21st Century Partnership. Some other interesting considerations:
  • It is based off what is commonly called Pascal’s Triangle— in a sense, a mathematical representation of Fibonacci’s Sequence. The actual graphical representation is of Sierpinski’s Triangle, who added graphic elements to the pattern of the triangle. This was used to help tie into the idea of Pascal, order and sequence inherent in our field.
  • The icon is meant to represent a lot of smaller parts making up a larger whole, reflecting the idea of our Partnership.
  • The middle triangle is also a nod to the basic triangular shape of our state.
  • The tag-line underscores the basis of the partnership: we seek to provide all of South Carolina higher education with access to the totality of the knowlege available in this amazing age of information.
To develop this logo, we worked with a great Columbia-based designer, Nick Kask, who has developed many "branding systems" for South Carolina non-profits, government agencies, and businesses. Not the least of Mr. Kask's recent ventures is the recent redesign of the State Library's logo. He also consulted on the graphic design for the recent successful update of their website.

Libraries wishing to use the logo should contact PASCAL, and we'll point you to our style sheet.
